Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Episode #10

– “I Won’t Depend on Anyone Anymore”

I knew I had been stressing this point for a while, but Madoka Magica is the best show that I’d seen in a long time. After two initial setting in lackluster episodes the emotional rollercoaster just will not stop. Urobuchi manages to capture the viewer’s deepest emotions and implement it into the story itself, at the same time brings out the best of what he’s given. Taking the basic premise of the mahou shoujo genre, he managed to create one story that is memorable for many years to come

Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Episode #9

— “I won’t allow that” The Sayaka-Kyoko arc finally comes into an end. The fate of those two characters intertwine in the last 5 episodes, with their character transformation mirroring each other’s developments. Piece by piece, we learn more about the true nature of the mahou shoujo system. It has been one emotional roller coaster, and I am loving every parts of it. (more…)

Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Episode #8

The descent to darkness is never a fun spectacle. The grief, the anger, the pity, the pain, all those negative emotions just flying out of the screen as the viewers observe the torturous path Sayaka has to go through. If the previous episodes of this series feel like we are on a roller coaster, then episode 8 is the start of the derailing, where it’s a complete free fall from now on.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Episode #7

The latest Madoka Magica episode is not the most shocking, but at the same time could be said to be the darkest so far. We slowly sees the effect of the revelation from the past few episodes building up, affecting those that matters. Little things accumulates and their consequences really makes you question the tried and proven(?) concept of mahou shoujo.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Episode #6

The death clock has once again grace us with its presence after 2 weeks of false alarms. Episode 6 is just as good as the one 3 weeks earlier, if not more dramatic and frightening. Most notably, what looks like the final destination of the series has been revealed. This episode is such a roller coaster ride it’s not funny.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica – Episode #5

After the doom and gloom of the last couple of episodes, we surprisingly has one that’s more on the positive side. In some way what happened in this episode defies most of my predictions, yet at the same time makes me looking forward to the future development a lot more. The story in the episode is nothing major, but kept me on my toes the whole time due to some clever storyboarding and camera works.

Level E – Episodes 2&3

I never expect a 3 ep short arc can be so different in tone, that I feel like that I got trolled badly by Yoshihiro Togashi(the original mangaka). Simply put, the way they resolve the building conflict is so out of this world (literally speaking) that my jaws hurt from dropping too much. At the same time my forehead hurts badly from facepalming myself that I didn’t manage to pick up those hints before. This first volume is simply one genius work, and hints of greater things to come.

Fractale – Episode #3

After an  episode full of loli goodness, this week’s fractale moves on to putting in more emphasis onto giving us more insight toward the world; how the fractale system works, and why is it collapsing. Overall the episode feel like a good step into the right direction.
